More awards for Soquel High School, Soquel California. Under the direction of my old friend Jim Stewart, the Varsity Band, Concert and Jazz Band all won Gold awards and the Sweepstakes Honors recently in Orange County, CA. My fingerprints are on these groups as well as I coach the clarinet section in the Varsity and Concert Bands and the saxophone section in the "A" Jazz Band. This just goes to show you how hard work and good coaching can combine to elevate the performance of school groups. We've been working diligently since the Fall with these groups, going beyond the notes and rhythms and into the nuances of pitch and balance. It's the attention to details such as these that make all the difference, and the judges took notice. Congrats to all involved and with much to build on for the future,
I expect more success going forward.
And as if these awards weren't enough, the Soquel High Football team won their first ever State Championship this Fall. Special kudos to the baritone sax player in the Jazz Band that also was a member of this football squad!!! Two great accomplishments in one year!!!!
